You cant go past this for a home NAS. 2TB NVME drives Teamgroup for $119AU, so 6 drives and the NAS fully loaded for tad over $1400, on Raid 5 almost 10TB of storage. 2.5G nic transfers solidly at 280mb per second, can run them in dual mode to double that again. Software is fantastic ! I have 2 x Truenas Servers, and even though if you want can run different OS on this Flashtor, due to the software being so versatile, I wend back to Asustor ADM. With work being so siber terrified, Wan tied down that tight, domestic network connections are denied, But with ADM redirect I can connect from work to grab files I need. Dead quiet and cheep as chips to run. So I run this NAS 16 hours per day for all my recent movies, pic and files, and only run my Truenas 40TB servers once on a weekend to backup this Flashtor. Hope this helps.

Easily saturates the 2.5gb eth, wishing it had 10gb instead. The CPU is underpowered for running services like Plex with transcoding, but good enough for general purpose NAS. The software is easy to use but not regularly updated (Asustor App Store is lagging months behind new versions). But you can work around it by using docker.

So I setup this drive with 6x 2tb Gen4 drives, everything went well, but all of a sudden it disconnected itself from my network! I just purchased a new 2.5g TP-Link switch with 2x synology NAS, and a Terramaster NAS and everything working flawless. I switched it off and done a reboot to which i Discovered my RAID 5 was gone. This seems to have killed one of my drives (or it was faulty), so done a re-build and 24 hour later the system disconnected itself from the network again!!! Changed cables and started again, and it constantly disconnected. Research suggests unplugging device from network and plugging back in. This method worked, but why do this just to have a working server??? Sent it back as clearly there is a fault. Terramaster and Synology are faultless and just work out the box......

5.0 out of 5 stars Whisper quiet and great little product

Don't let the weird PS4 shape put you off, also the rather plasticky build. The device itself is super easy to use, from the installations of the NVME drives (toolless), and upgrading the memory. I upgraded mine to 16gb using some Crucial (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08C4WV6FT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1). The downloadable ASUSTOR Control Center app made installation of the NAS a breeze.

The interface is snappy and quick on 16gb.

The official heatsinks are a little overpriced (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CFTYRK3J?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) and should really have been included. I would recommend some sort of heatsinks for keep things cool. Just be careful if you intend to add NVME drives with existing heatsinks as they might too tall and may obstruct the cooling fan or worse still prevent you from putting the fixture plate back on.

Across a 2.5gb link, I've managed to saturate the available bandwidth reliably and consistently.

The app store although not the same level as QNAP or Synology, has some of the most common apps available, so not felt as though I missed out using ASUSTOR ADM.

Overall, pleased with the device and as a Flash NAS is makes a compelling reason to ditch the mechanical equivalents, although it will be far more expensive to populate.

After doing research I found this is not compatible and then I brought cr 1000 mx 500ssd1. This I confirmed from list in asustor of compatible ssd. This is again not compatible. Both ssd are waste of money. They are non refundable and useless for me now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unraid Power
Reviewed in Germany on 14 November 2023
    Verified Purchase
