Superb Optics

Superb Optics
I recently purchased a pair of Pentax 10 x 50 WP binos and couldn't be more happy with them. I bought them for astonomical use mainly, but have used them for terrestrial viewing as 10 x 50 is a great choice for a general purpose binocular. The optical quality is superb, only the highest quality binocular costing several thousand $$ would better them. When looking at stars they are easily and quickly brought to a sharp focus, no flaring, no color distortions, just a single point of light and the focus lock is a great feature once fine focus is achieved. I also own several other large binos, Celestron Skymaster 15 x 70 and Celestron Skymaster Pro 20 x 80. The Pentax are a big step up in optical quality over the standard Skymasters and and improvement on the Skymater Pro's even though the Pro's retain the advantage of 20x mag and big 80mm lenses which make them better for viewing really faint objects. Views of the moon were a real pleasure and the Jupiters moons are all easily resolved although I was using a tripod which gave a rock solid view, highly recommended but not essential, these 10 x 50's are very usable without a tripod. There is some outer edge distortion as there is with all entry and mid level binos but this is very mild and nothing like the badly distorted outer edge views in some of the cheaper and nastier options out there. My only complaint would be the narrow 5 degree FoV for a 10 x 50, this really needs to be at least 6 degrees, I believe the non waterproof version has 6.5 degrees which could be a better choice if you don't need the waterproofing option. All in all highly recommended and worth paying a little more over the standard entry level options out there that look good on paper but have less than stellar performance.

These binoculars have far outreached my expectations. They are so clear to look through and the product and carry case are very good quality. Arrived super fast and at $99.00 with free delivery they were at least $40-$50 cheaper than competitors. Would highly recommend this company and their products.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant binocular to use (8x40)
Reviewed in the United States on 7 May 2023
    Size: 8x40Style: ClassicVerified Purchase
Feels good in the hand a looks good. Focus is precise. Resolution is very good. A little of the tunnel vision effect going on but still a wide view. Diopter adjustment could be a little stiffer for my taste but after using the binocular for a total of several hours the adjustments have stayed put ( I put a small dot with a marker ( Q tip with a little alcohol can remove the the dot) so if the diopter adjust does get moved I will know it and can quickly go back to were it needs to be for my eyes. The binocular does have some heft to it so not a light weight. Holds very steady. Lense caps go on and off without trouble but dont fall off easily. Binocular at its best for careful use, I would not use for the tough conditions of hunting ( rain, bad weather, nocks and bumps etc). Manual says water proof but implies not extremy so, good enough I believe that it will not allow fugus on inner lense over the years. External focus mechanism so dont put large amount of pressure on the diopter barrels, might not hurt it or cause the need for readjustment though. I have several expensive binoculars but I really like these, glad I made the purchase. Something about the porro prism binocular make them best to look through, just not as compact as the roof prism design to pack and carry around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, overlooked bins

I own a Leica ultravid 10x42, a Nikon monarch 3 8x42 and this Pentax 10x50. All of them are higher priced than this Pentax. The ultravid suffers from colour fringing. The monarch 3 is light and handy but the rubber body have degraded after 2 years of use and Nikon have no way to repair them. When I got the Pentax, it is heavy compared to the Leica and monarch3. When I field test them, regular bird watching, sports events and boat spotting at night, the 50 lens gives the brightest views, colours were accurate. Almost zero chromatic aberration. At a fraction of the price against my 2 other bins. I enjoy carrying it more why? Lens is clear, bright and have a good focus lock. Adjustments are positive and eye cups provides good relief, the rubberised body is built like a tank. It is excellent for what I use it for. I don't see the need to spend to buy any other bins unless I want a super lightweight one. It is awesome value. But it comes with rubbish lens caps that u will either lose it or throw them away these caps can be easily upgraded to flip up caps. The strap is rubbish as well for a heavy bino and provides a strap rash around the neck if used for long period. Just grab a optech or a trocas one it will go a long way.

Excellent optics. The 10X means it's hard to hold still enough by hand so bracing against something is useful. I'm an old school photographer so I have a nice wooden tripod...wow, it really shows their sharpness. I like using a monopod to be portable and fairly stable. The $10 Barska tripod adapter works great. I'm very pleased with these binoculars.

Great value. I use them for bird watching in my neighborhood and they work well. They are nice and bright.

Just wish their lens caps were attached like Bushnell’s, its much easier for a quick viewing and they aren’t misplaced. Bushnell’s adjustment for eyeglasses is much better but these are still very good optics for the price
